Now Hiring Maintenance & Facilities Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance & Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations and assumes responsibility for maintaining the physical assets of the building and for the maintenance and repair of the facility and all equipment under the direction of the Plant Manager. Additionally, the Maintenance & Facilities technician will assess and consider on a daily basis 1) the safety of our employees, 2) the security of our assets and 3) the service to our customers. The position will coordinate outside contractors or vendors for various services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned;
  • Work within expense limits assigned;
  • Repair and maintain all company equipment including but not limited to blenders and packaging machinery;
  • Maintain inventory controls for cost effective operations;
  • Develop and fully document daily all preventative and predictive maintenance tasks;
  • Develop and maintain a spare and critical parts inventory;
  • Establish data collection and recording procedures to insure maintenance data (work orders, equipment history, etc.) is captured in the computerized maintenance system.
  • Use machine tools to fabricate and/or repair equipment parts and use basic electrical trouble shooting equipment;
  • Monitor contractor performance and work closely with outside vendors and contractors to ensure work is completed according to specifications;
  • May act as project coordinator for all size projects including large scale repair and new facility construction projects;
  • Solicits bids and quotes from vendors;
  • Responsible for 24-hour emergency service as scheduled;
  • Monitor and maintain all building systems as assigned;
  • Maintain a professional, courteous manner with all employees, customers and vendors;
  • Responsible for alerting management of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that has taken place or that may occur if certain practices are continued or are not established;
  • Assure safety standards are used which comply to all company, local, City, State and Federal guidelines;
  • Ensure compliance of all work related activities in a fair, ethical and consistent manner;
  • Follow established company policies and those outlined in the Employee Handbook;
  • Perform all activities and develop new protocols in a manner that are consistent with maintaining the company’s current Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification;
  • Ability to exert 50 to100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly;
  • Ensure maintenance activities do not adversely impact the production schedule or allow product adulteration;
  • Performs additional tasks as required to accomplish organizational goals.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Electrical principles and theories;
  • Welding skills;
  • Local/State/Federal electrical codes to perform installation, maintenance, and repair work which will meet code requirements;
  • Plumbing systems and operations;
  • Local/State/Federal plumbing codes to perform installation, maintenance, and repair work which will meet code requirements;
  • Local/State/Federal heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) codes to perform installation, maintenance, and repair work which will meet code requirements;
  • Methods and techniques required in lifting, moving, stacking and protecting tools, equipment and materials;
  • Proper use and hazards of chemical materials (e.g. paints, primers, roof coatings, caustic acids, etc.);
  • Applicable local/state/federal EPA regulations to ensure compliance of work performed;
  • The correct selection and safe use of various applicable hand, power and specialty tools;
  • Inspecting and determining repairs and replacement of materials and equipment;
  • Correctly applying methods, practices, and procedures in preventative maintenance, inspection, repair, renovation, and minor construction of buildings and utilities;
  • Accurately reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches and schematics as they relate to buildings & utilities services systems;
  • Performing installation, preventative maintenance, inspection, repair and replacement of various floor surfaces and coverings;
  • Follow safety standards in working with multiple services, tools & equipment;
  • Develop, follow-up and complete work orders;
  • Work with independence (minimal supervision) to complete work in an efficient, timely and safe manner.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Prefer Undergraduate Technical Degree or relevant certifications
  • Previous Facilities/Maintenance experience
  • Previous institutional experience in Electrical/HVAC/Plumbing & two (2) years of experience in building maintenance field
  • Education or technical training in a related field to facilities/maintenance through a recognized institution is highly desirable.
  • Prefer Food Industry experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Must be able to act as a liaison between facilities personnel, employees and contractors
  • Must be able to write reports and other documents legibly
  • Must be willing to work in various conditions such as tight enclosed spaces, heights & extreme temperatures, indoors/outdoors to complete assignments
  • Be able to apply leadership techniques for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate work methods
  • Must be willing to acquire additional skills to maintain or develop additional technical competencies
  • Must be able to use miscellaneous office equipment (e.g. calculators, computers, FAX machines, copiers, etc.)

FSLA STATUS: Non-Exempt

  • Work Hours 40-50 with periodic surge hours depending on inspections and equipment performance
